** KINBAKU SALONG ** Time: 18.00–21.30 Bergborg presents a series of evenings with introductions to some of the pioneers in the history of Kinbaku. This evening is about YUKIMURA HARUKI (1948–2016) Excerpt from an interview with a student of Yukimura, Nuit de Tokyo: "About Yukimura – his external style of rope is very simple. If you are somewhat experienced, I can show it to you in five minutes. But his way of handling the person he ties, his way of building a fantasy, his timing – all that is not simple at all. It is hard to reproduce, to enter into that relationship with the person you tie, enter into the fantasy-world of the other person. If you are able to enter into that fantasy, you 'win' in a certain sense. If you do not enter, you 'loose'. This is not because your rope is complicated or not. If you have tied ten ropes very nicely, but have not entered into the fantasy of the person being tied – it just has no meaning. (...) You know, when Yukimura was giving a lesson, he was not trying to teach a knot. He was not just showing a tie, he was teaching how to tie, how to relate to the model by way of rope. He would always take time and talk about rope as communication – he would not go into tying at once, but take the time when the student would come, have tea, maybe show some photos and videos, talk about what he saw ('look at her face, etc')... The aim is not so much to do rope, but to interact with the model in a way that makes her fantasy develop. That is the key thing for Yukimura." There will be rare books and old magazines, translated texts, movie-clips, and excerpts from original interviews not yet published. Bring an open mind, a pen and a notebook. And, of course, bring your ropes...
